This is a blog of my runnings and ramblings in North and South Carolina. It's a motivator and memory minder of our new experiences living in the south.

Wheels falling off the bus?
Only 3 days to go to Umstead and it seems the wheels are falling off the bus. I only ran 7 miles last week (and felt great, I might add) and went out to run yesterday and felt lousy. Not the way I wanted my last outdoor run to go. It was 100% humidity so I'm hoping that that is why. I didn't even realize that it was that humid until I got home and checked the weather. I ran this morning on treadmill and it was still very humid but I did feel better although my butt ached the entire workout even while walking! That is not good but hopefully I'll be able to ignore it on Saturday. It's hard to imagine however, that I'll be "running" 100 miles in 3 days! How will I do it? My plan is to just try to stay calm and let the day unfold. I will listen to my body and hopefully it will cooperate. I'm very concerned about disappointing Jean as she's coming from NJ to pace me for the last 50! I'd feel really bad if I just can't continue and she doesn't get to run 50. I'm just going to go for it and try not to worry too much. (easier said than done) It does add pressure to think that I'll not only disappoint myself if it's not my day but I'll also disappoint Jean. Oh well, I'm going to stay postive and do what I can. I figure the worst case will be that I'll be forced to do more walking and possibly miss the cutoff but I'd be happy to just put the time on my feet even if I fall short of the entire distance. I don't plan on stopping until I run out of time unless they pull me off or I collapse and can no longer move forward. I want to at minimal run 24 hours. My first goal is to finish the 100 mile distance but I would settle for just being out there for 24 to 30 hours. I go to the chiropractor today so hopefully he'll have some words of wisdom and will perform some magic. I'm not thrilled about starting such a long journey with a sore butt!
