Went to the reservoir and ended up walking. Too humid to do much else and I'm tired! Got home and decided to do a Body Pump dvd at home rather than going to the gym and I dropped a 10 pound weight on my big toe! Ouch! I don't know if I broke it or not but it's black and blue and swollen. I'm hoping I can get a good run in tomorrow but am not sure how it will feel in a shoe. What next? I did manage to get my workout in though so all was not lost.
I signed up for the Umstead 100 Mile Run today so we're committed. (or maybe we should be?) Now it's time to really get serious and bumping up our mileage and getting some good training runs in. We're got a few races lined up so that should help us get in shape and I do plan to get back to the gym for more yoga, body pumping and spinning. Now I know why they don't allow dumbbells (that's a noun not an adjective) in the gym, just barbells and plates.
Well, I'm in training now so off to bed I go. Gotta get up early to get a good long run in. Hopefully at least 2 hours and then 3 on Sunday with a bike ride on Monday. (providing that the toe will allow itself to be placed in a shoe!
Good night!
This is a blog of my runnings and ramblings in North and South Carolina. It's a motivator and memory minder of our new experiences living in the south.

Oh my aching back!
I guess I overdid it a little this week and my back is letting me know it. I woke today with a very stiff back and decided to just run and skip biking and body pump. I did do my ab workout and will do PM Yoga tonight. Hope it relaxes soon and doesn't keep haunting me. I'm not sure if I'll be up to biking over the weekend or not. Hopefully it will be better as the weather is supposed to break and get a little cooler.
I did run on the treadmill at the gym for an hour (5 miles) and that was good. My back doesn't hurt when I run, just when I stop running and sit! I think I need to really keep it moving yet in a gentle way.
We grilled on our new grill tonight and was great! I'm teaching Frank the secrets of grilling! He's looking forward to trying his hand at cooking! Yikes!
Well, off do to some yoga and then call it a night.

HI!
Ran for 2 hours today at the reservoir. It was hot and humid again but we got it done. Ran errands after that, picked the new grill and even got it put together. Hope to use it tomorrow!
Tomorrow we're running to the club and then doing some intervals on the treadmill and then running home. We're hoping to get out to do some biking tomorrow since I'm biking with Chris on Saturday. I hope I remember how to do it! I guess it's like riding a bike?
Rudy starts work on the bookcases so that will be nice to have those done. I know it's going to be beautiful. Now we'll have to fill all those shelves.

Tuesday night
Hi!
It's been a busy couple of days again. Today we drove to Troy to return a rug we purchased on Sunday for the living room. It just wasn't the right one for the room so we'll keep hunting for that perfect fit!
We joined the gym and I went over tonight for a spin class. it was a great workout and hopefully I'll continue getting some extra workouts in. We ran at the reservoir this morning so a second workout was icing on the cake! The gym is only about 2 minutes from the house so it works out great. We are going to run there on Thursday and then run intervals on the treadmill! Frank even took a spinning class yesterday. It was an express class, meaning it's only 30 minutes and that was more than enough for him. I hope he keeps going and will eventually go to the full length workouts. It's a great workout and great cross-training. I'm hoping it will help me running the hills in some of our upcoming ultras!
Tomorrow we're running for 2 hours at the reservoir and then taking the express spin class. Not too much on tap for tomorrow but may go to the wine walk at our neighbors after running errands.
I'm hoping that our grill is in and we can get that and start grilling. It's so hot to have to turn the oven on although we've been doing it. I'm going to teach Frank how to grill. So stay turned to discover how he does! Hopefully cooler weather is around the corner and we'll be able to sit outside on the deck although we really enjoy eating in the sunroom.

A Long Hot Weekend
Hi!
Well, it was another hot weekend in NC. On Saturday we went to Ellerbe to run the 15 mile Shirt with the Mangum Track Club. It was HOT! But we did it and got our shirts. I ran much of it alone or with Frank so I didn't get to do much socializing but it was still fun and we did get to do some socializing after we finished although some had left. The MTC is a great group and I'm looking forward to going to their events. I'm motivated to get in shape to be able to hang with the best of them. There are a couple of women in their 60s but they didn't run the shirt run or I would have been able to run with them. We did get to meet them and they're very nice and will make great training partners and they also both bike. I also met Chris who does a lot of biking and wants to hook up so I'm looking forward to that.
We slept in this morning (Sunday) and that was a treat. We went to Troy and bought a rug for the dining room. I'm not sure if it "works" or not but we have 7 days to make a decision. It's really nice but.....I'm not sure if I love it enough yet. It's growing on me though and I'll have Caroline come over tomorrow to voice her opinion.
We also met so other neighbors that have a couple of Bichons. They loved Chico and couldn't get over how cute he is. They were very nice and have a beautiful home overlooking the pond on the golf course. A view to die for. Well, maybe not die, but it is very nice.
I'm looking forward to a good week with lots of working out and getting paperwork organized. Still lots to do but it's winding down and shouldn't control our lives. Rudy starts to build the bookcases on Thursday. We're looking forward to having that done as well and then we'll be done for a little while and get start to enjoying more of the area.

Another Day in Paradise
Hi!
It's now about 8:00 Friday evening and it's the first chance I've had to write my blog for today. It's been a busy day putting everything back together in the living room now that the floors are done. They came out beautifully and we're very happy. Everything needed to be dusted and cleaned before going back into place but it's back and it looks great. Next week the contractor that is building our bookcases will be here and I guess we'll go through another mess. It's all worth it though as it's really looking great. Soon we will be able to just relax and not have to be constantly doing house things. I'm looking forward to doing more fun things like running and biking although I do like making the house look nice as well.
Chico went to the groomer today and looks great so we're very happy with the new groomer as well. So far, we've been pleased with all of the services that we've used since we've been here. I found a great hairdresser and chiropractor so that is terrific. Now we'll need to look for dentists, doctors and vets but I'm sure that we'll love them as well.
This place is so incredible and we're really starting to feel blessed that we choose this area to move to. It's like being on a permanent vacation and I've heard that voiced from several of our neighbors as well who have been here for years. Everyone loves it and thinks it's a magical place.
This morning Frank went outside to rake pine needles out of the driveway and one of our neighbors came over with a special rake (which Frank loved) as well as a leaf blower! Incredible, although I did tell Frank that if he was a really good neighbor he would have offered to clear the needles for us! No, seriously, I found that just incredible. People could not be nicer here. It's still surprises me when perfect strangers start talking like you've been friends forever! In a way, I hope I never get used to it and am always grateful. Anyway, we love it here and can't imagine being anywhere else!
Well, tomorrow will be a busy day. We're meeting the Magnum Track Club to run an initiation run of 15 miles which should be grueling at best since it's going to be 100 again! Yikes, I'm nervous as it'll probably take me 4 hours and that's a long time to be HOT! I'll let you know how we make out. We met several of the members last week at the 1/2 marathon and they were great! Very friendly and one women is interested in hooking up to go biking! Wouldn't that be great! Can't wait to get out and play!
Have a good night!

Another hot day
Hi!
We did get a little rain overnight but it's still very hot and humid so I'm going to go to the gym and take a spinning class. Hopefully the heatwave will break soon and I'll be able to get out and run. I'm going to use this blog as a daily motivator to help me get in shape and run my 100 next year so I'll be discussing tons of health and fitness related topics as well as life in Pinehurst. Hope you enjoy following my progress and keeping up with my training goals!
I'm going to do my yoga AM video to help with my flexibility which has been neglected far too long. I've started doing it a couple of mornings and must say, it's very ejoyable. Frank is off to run at the park since he's more able to handle the humidity then I, so I'll stay here and stretch.
I'll write more later and let you know how my spin class went.

Living in Pinehurst
Hi!
We've been in our new home in Pinehurst for 1 month now! I can't believe how quickly we've adapted and are really enjoying it here. We immediately went to work unpacking and getting settled. It's been in the upper 90's since we got here and have had almost 2 weeks in the 100's! Everyone assures us that this is not normal and will not last. Our neighbors are very friendly and we're looking forward to getting together with them in the future. Everyone loves it here and it's like you're on a permanent vacation! Running has been tough in the heat but much of our time is being spent inside painting and getting the house to our liking. Everyday is better and we're closer to having our new house become our new home.
We met the local running group last week at a trail half-marathon and they are really friendly and nice. I ran the race with members Frank and Dawn. It was really a lot of fun and I got to know them and about the club by the time we finished. next week we're going to meet them and run the 15 mile Shirt Run to become members!
Living in NC is going to be a great experience! We're going to love it here!
